I had conversation with a friend recently where the discussion led to talking about how we felt during our pregnancies, mainly the things we loved and hated. I wasn't too surprised at how different we each felt during pregnancy and even how much that varied pregnancy to pregnancy. I can totally attest to that after carrying 3 children!! Each of my pregnancies carried different stressors and different joys. The one thing I have from all of my pregnancy is photos.

I started my photography journey after my first boy was born, before then I relied heavily on Jana (JGL Photography) to document our little family and make me look and feel beautiful even though I hardly felt that way on an average day. I can't even tell you how much I love all of my maternity pictures. When I look back at all three of those sets of images they give me all the feels. More than anything they are a reminder.

As time goes on, so many memories of my pregnancies, births and little babes slowly fade. But when I look back on these images I can so clearly remember that time of pregnancy. I remember feeling him move in my belly and tiny hiccups during the session. I remember the bittersweet feeling that my first baby would not be the only baby soon enough. I remember feeling the soon-to-be big brothers arms trying to reach around my belly and their tiny faces nestling into my stomach as they talked to the baby in Mama's belly. I remember the chaos of attempting a maternity session with two wild little boys, but I remember still snuggling my big boys despite my big ole belly being in the way.

I know first hand that pregnancy isn't always glamorous, and sometimes we struggle to feel like ourselves as we are feeling like nothing more than an incubator for our tiny miracle, but that is not how I see you. I see the beauty in the life you are carrying, the joy, the anticipation, the worry, the pain, and all the other feelings that come with being pregnant. I see an amazingly strong woman growing LIFE, often times while carrying for other little humans. I strongly believe that you will want to remember this moment, even if you don’t love being pregnant! If this is your first baby or fifth baby, this is part of your story. You are growing this beautiful human inside your body, you should document that time, whether with me or another photographer. Trust me, you will forget little feelings and details as time goes on…but believe me, you will so desperately want to remember.

So Mama... Schedule the maternity session. Do a little shopping and treat yourself to a pretty dress that makes you feel like the goddess that you are (I'll link a few of my favorite dresses below) or ask about my client closet! I know you're tired, but spend a little extra time on your hair and makeup or go enjoy a little pampering at your favorite salon before your session (you deserve it), and relish in a session that's all about you and that sweet belly you've worked so hard to grow.
